Barbara Swigart

Barbara L. Swigart, “Barb”, 83, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. Barb was surrounded by family and friends. She was born on February 15, 1940 to James O. and Marjorie V. (Swisher) Webb at home on the family farm during a blizzard. She always said that her granddad would say there were squealing piglets in the basement and a squealing baby upstairs. Barb was a 1958 graduate of Salem High School in West Liberty, Ohio. She met her future husband, Keith on a blind date in 1959 and they were married on October 25, 1961. Barb worked in many different areas, until their daughter was born, then she became a stay-at-home mom until 1983 when she decided to go to college and earned her Associates of Applied Science in Legal Assisting in December 1988. Barb loved being a paralegal. She retired from WPAFB, in 2005, where she worked in the Dispute Resolutions Division, JAG. She was a longtime volunteer at the National Matches at Camp Perry Ohio, numerous rifle matches throughout Ohio and other states, which she started doing when Wendy and Keith started to compete as competitive rifle shooters. She was also a band/choir mom while Wendy was in school. Barb is survived by her husband of 62 years, Keith, daughter Wendy and son in law Jim Voorhees, adopted daughter Beverly (David) Bass, adopted granddaughter Brittany (Davis) Blanton, great grandchildren Jaxsyn and Emery.. Sisters Patsy Furay and Bonnie Hannah, 3 nephews and numerous other family members. Close friends Dave and Beth Hauer, Jan and Richard Kisamore, childhood friend Linda (Jack) Holland and many more friends, too numerous to mention. She was preceded in death by her parents and an older sister at birth. Barb and Keith loved to travel and enjoyed both RVing and motorcycling which they did as often aspossible. Their 50th anniversary was spent in Alaska where they had hoped to return some day. A visitation will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023, 10:00 am- 12:00 pm, at Adkins Funeral Home, Enon, Ohio, burial to immediately to follow in Byron Cemetery.
