Thomas "Tom" Blanton

Thomas “Tom” Lee Blanton, 89, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, August 21, 2022 with his family by his side. He was born on September 14, 1932 in Magoffin County, KY to the late Floyd and Linnie (Meade) Blanton. Tom moved to Jackson, Ohio at the young age of fourteen with his family, then on to Dayton when he was eighteen. He spent the remainder of his life near or around Springfield. Tom married the love of his life, Josephine “Jo” (Cantrell) Blanton on June 12, 1965 and they were married for 57 years. He retired from Chrysler in 1991 after 32 years of service where he worked as a Maintenance Welder. Tom was a member of the Vandalia Masonic Lodge and he volunteered regularly at the Springfield Masonic Home. In his younger years he was an avid runner. Most importantly, Tom was devoted to his family and to the Lord. He was a member of the Miami Valley United Baptist Church. During his retirement, Tom enjoyed nothing more than being with his family and watching his grandkids grow. Nothing gave him more pleasure than watching Sam pitch or Cooper play football. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mildred Blanton Stewart; and two brothers: DJ Blanton and Ray Blanton; and his son-in-law, Michael Chaffin. He is survived by his loving wife, Jo, of Springfield, Ohio; a daughter, Tracey (Blanton) Chaffin of Fairborn, Ohio; a grandson, Cooper Chaffin of Fairborn, Ohio; a granddaughter, Samantha Chaffin of Fairborn, Ohio; a future grandson-in-law (Sam’s fiancé), Austin Furderer of Springfield, Ohio; two sisters: Faye Piper of Beaver, Ohio and Sue Combs of Omaha, NE; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, church family and neighbors who will all mourn his loss in their life. Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be sorely missed. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 11:00 AM in Adkins Funeral Home in Enon, Ohio, officiated by Elder Curt Smith. Friends and family may also call during a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow in the Enon Cemetery. A memorial dinner will be held after committal at Miami Valley United Baptist Church, 660 W. Hyde Road, Yellow Springs, Ohio 45387.
