LTCol Herbert L. Clonch

August 19, 1942 - March 29, 2013

Retired LTCol Herbert L. Clonch, Sr., 70, of Enon passed away on Good Friday, March 29, 2013 in his home with his family by his side. Herbert was born to Helen and the late Philip Clonch (WWII), and raised by his mother and stepfather, Grayson Kendrick. Herbert was a Vietnam veteran who served as a B-52 radar navigator and retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1987. He also retired from civil service at Wright Patterson AFB in 2012. Herbert is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Margaret Clonch, two sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Martha Clonch of Fairborn, Russell G. and Stephanie Clonch of Yellow Springs, a sister, Elizabeth and Alan Koch, a brother, Toney Kendrick, eight grandchildren: Claudia, Dylan, Benjamin, Caleb, Isabella, Edwin, Gina Marie’, Philip; a great grandson, Quinn; and numerous family and friends. Herbert was a member of the Holy Order of High Priesthood (Chapter), Knight Masons of the United States of America, The Royal Order of Scotland, Order of the Silver Trowel (Council), The York Rite Sovereign College of North America, The Red Cross of Constantine, The High Twelve International, Council of Research and Development. He held the titles: SYMBOLIC (BLUE LODGE); Past Worshipful Master Anthony Lodge #455, Past District Deputy Grand Master 9th Masonic District; SCOTTISH RITE; Commander-in-Chief Dayton Consistory, Honorary 33rd Degree Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton; CAPITULAR MASONRY (CHAPTER); Past Excellent High Priest Shawnee Chapter #237, Past District Deputy Grand High Priest 6th Capitular District, Past Grand Guard Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons of Ohio; CRYPTIC MASONRY (COUNCIL); Past Illustrious Master Springfield Council #17, President 3rd Arch Officer’s Association, Past 3rd Arch Adjutant Grand Council Royal & Select Masons of Ohio; Distinguished Achievement Award; CHIVALRIC or CHRISTIAN MASONRY (COMMANDERY); Past Eminent Commander Palestine Commandery #33; Knight York Cross of Honour Ohio Priory #18, Hospitaller of Clark County; APPENDANT BODIES; Past Sovereign Master Allied Masonic Degrees, Grand Tall Cedar Tall Cedars of Lebanon of North America. Visitation will be 5-8pm, Monday, April 1, in the Enon United Methodist Church. Masonic and Commandery services will begin at 7pm in the church. Funeral Service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, April 2, 2013 in the Enon United Methodist Church, Enon, with Pastor Jeff Mohr officiating. Graveside service with military honors will follow at 3pm in Vinton Memorial Cemetery, Vinton, Ohio. Adkins Funeral Home, Enon, is assisting Herbert’s family with his final wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations may also be made in Herbert’s memory to Enon United Methodist Church or Hospice of Dayton.
