Woodrow "Woody" Baxter

Woodrow “Woody” Baxter, 97, of New Carlisle went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 22, 2021. He was born on April 1, 1924 in Hope, Kentucky to John and Nettie (Oakley) Baxter. (Woody often joked about being born on April Fool’s Day!) He married the love of his life, Reva (Ritchie) Baxter on July 4, 1950, and they had 71 wonderful years together. Woody worked for the Premier Rubber Manufacturing Co. for 27 years. He enjoyed walking, wood working gardening, canning and going to church, though nothing was more important to him than his faith and his family. Woody was a devoted member of the Untied Baptist family for nearly all of his life, belonging most recently to the Miami Valley United Baptist Church where he was a Deacon for 30 years. Reva and he enjoyed traveling to visit church family so much. Woody was preceded in death by his parents: John and Nettie; his loving wife: Reva; a brother: John Baxter, Jr.; three sisters: Opal, Dollie, Lela belle; a half-brother: Walter Spence; and a half-sister: Anna Mae Spence. Woody is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law: Wendell and Orie Baxter of Norman, OK, Rickey “Rick” Baxter of New Carlisle, OH, Frankie and Dawn Baxter of Hawthorne, CA; Brothers: five grandchildren: Kristina, Wendell Jr., Natasha, Brandon, Brittney; twelve great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, neighbors and church family who will all miss him dearly. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 10:00 AM in the Miami Valley Untied Baptist Church, 660 W. Hyde Road, Yellow Springs, OH 45387 with burial immediately following in Byron Cemetery, Fairborn, OH. The service will be a joint memorial for Woody and his late wife, Reva, who recently passed due to Covid. Elder Curt Smith and Elder Eugene Wells will officiate. The church will also provide a meal after the service for family and friends to gather and remember Woody and Reva. A viewing for Woody will be held on Friday, October 29th, also in the church, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Miami Valley United Baptist Church. Adkins Funeral Home, Enon, OH is assisting the Baxter family with Woody’s final wishes.
